Very personal things
Three months into parenthood. An interesting experience, but easier than I was expecting.
Work
Protein science, SAR-driving assays, small molecules. Last year, I dove headfirst into digital tools in life science R&D, LIMS administration mostly - an interesting topic and an enjoyable thing to work on.
Study and projects
Still building a homebrew NAS/htpc.
I have plans to conduct some semi-personal research, loosely inspired by last year’s Landrum and Riniker paper on activity/affinity values deposited publicly. I’m curious to see how the data is treated and how experiments are designed when extreme affinities and potencies are reported. Both my experience and “biochemical consciousness” tell me that there are many more caveats in tackling extreme potencies than are commonly accounted. No nitpicking, just pure interest. For sure, I will learn something new there.
Reading
I have a horrible habit of reading multiple books in parallel, primarily because I don’t want to focus much during the evenings and weekends.
It’s a little stupid to talk about books before finishing them, but here’s what I’m reading now:
- “Chemistry and Pharmacology of Drug Discovery” — I am past several programs. The book is alright, but outline of the chapters makes it repetitive.
- “The Age of Surveillance Capitalism” by Shoshana Zuboff — a little heavy, it takes time. Generally, I am right-wing, but I can’t not to agree with the book content.
- “Spook Country” by William Gibson — re-reading. I read again “Pattern Recognition” this December (my favourite Gibson novel, btw, I prefer it to “Neuromancer”). I had not read “Zero History” yet, the final book of the trilogy, so I decided to refresh memories - even though all three stories are connected superficially.
Playing
(…I started “Baldur’s Gate 3” two years ago, and still haven’t finished it.)
Trying to get into limited in MTG.
Sport
Winter has come, and my outdoor activities (running) have sadly ceased. Yet again, I’ve promised myself to hit the gym in the coming year. This kind of resolution has never worked before.
